Simon Baker is Tate’s first curator of photography, having joined in 2009, prior to which he was Associate Professor of Art History at the University of Nottingham. He writes on photography and contemporary art and has curated the following recent exhibitions: Performing for the Camera (Tate Modern, 2016); Another Language, 9 Japanese Photographers (Arles, 2015); Conflict, Time, Photography (Tate Modern, 2014); William Klein + Daido Moriyama (Tate Modern, 2012).

An Art Critic and a Curator, Pascal Beausse is currently the Head of Photographic Collections at the Centre National des Arts Plastiques (CNAP) in Paris. He is also Guest Professor at the Geneva University of Arts and Design (HEAD).
He is a member of the editorial committee of the art journal Critique d’art, and contributed to magazines such as Art Press, Blocnotes and Flash Art. He has published essays, articles, interviews and catalogues on the work of Maria Thereza Alves, Jimmie Durham, Teresa Margolles, Allan Sekula, Bruno Serralongue, Cécile Hartmann and Wang Du, among others.
Recent exhibitions curated by Pascal Beausse include La Cabane (Palais de Tokyo, Paris, 2006); Welcome to Heterotopia!! Michael Famighetti is editor of Aperture magazine. He has edited numerous photography books, including volumes by William Christenberry, Robert Adams, John Divola, Jonas Bendiksen, and a series based on the website Tiny Vices. His writing has appeared in Frieze, Bookforum, Aperture, andOjodePez, among other publications. Famighetti has degrees from Bard College and Columbia University, where he has also taught. He has served as a judge for the American Society of Magazine Editors National Magazine Awards and has been a guest reviewer and speaker at many international photography festivals and institutions, including the Bamako Biennial, Mali; Krakow PhotoMonth, Poland; GuatePhoto, Guatemala; Rhubarb Rhubarb, Birmingham, U.K.; Festival de la Luz, Buenos Aires; Museet for Fotokunst, Odense, Denmark; and Fotografiska, Stockholm.

Andréa Holzherr (born in 1964 in Tübingen) lives and works in Paris as an exhibition manager, publicist and curator. She studied at the Ecole du Louvre Paris as well as at the Sorbonne.
She has been working since 2003 as an exhibition manager and curator for Magnum Photos, Paris and is responsible for promoting the Magnum Archive through active exhibition work in collaboration with international museums and cultural institutions in Europe. Before, she worked at the Maison Européene de la Photographie in Paris as assistant curator to the director.
Andréa Holzherr has curated numerous exhibitions, among others Bang Bang, Tatort Kunst 2012 at Haus der Kunst Uri and the CCA, Palma de Mallorca; Mythos Kindheit 2010 at the Kunstverein Ludwigshafen, the Haus für Kunst Uri and the CCA, Palma de Mallorca; Elina Brotherus: The New Painting 2006 at the Finnish Museum of Photography, and Stella Polaris 2006 at Paris Photo. In September 2013 she was the responsible curator for the 5. Fotofestival Mannheim_Ludwigshafen_Heidelberg in Germany.
Her publications include such titles as Eve Arnold Hommage (2012), Helsinki School (2005-2011), George Rodger Unterwegs (2009), Elina Brotherus (2005), as well as numerous publications in specialist contemporary photography magazines.

As a photo activist, Ryan received a grant from the W. Eugene Smith Fund for “leadership in fields ancillary to photojournalism, such as editing research, education and management.”, founded Documentary Arts Asia & gave 2 TEDx talks on photography.
As a curator / judge, Ryan founded 2 photo festivals and curates 50 plus exhibitions a year for galleries, festival and special events. He is a judge for the International Photo Awards, Photo Lucida, Moscow Photo Awards, a nominator for the Prix Pictet and director of the F/28 and Chiangmai Documentary Arts Festival.
As a media educator, Ryan has taught throughout Asia for organizations such as, UNESCO, the EU and the Olympic Committee. He was a special lecturer on documentary photography at Chiang Mai University for 2 semesters.
As a photographer, Ryan’s photography has been exhibited at over 20 galleries, including the Nikon Salon and the Fuji Film Salon, as well as in the mass media; Outside, BBC, Marie Claire & Bangkok Air. He is the winner of the Nikon Inspiration Award and grants from the Pulitzer Center.
He has called Asia home for 15 years.

Born in 1946, he began began his career as a teacher of French literature. He decided to become a freelance photographer during 1977-1979. He joined « Sygma Agency » as an international reporter and covered Afghanistan, Lebanon, Salvador, Poland, Ireland, Sri-Lanka, Argentina … and French domestic policy, between 1979 and 1989. After traveling across the world and seeing a diversity of incidents, he became the Co-chief Editor of « Gamma Agency » from 1989 to 1990. Following 3 years, 1990 to 1993, he worked as Chief Photo Editor in VSD (weekly French Mag). From 1993 to 1999, as Chief Editor, he collaborated with various magazines including Point de vue, Globe, Evénement du Jeudi, Fémina. Now, still active as a photography writer and as a curator. His recent works include Lianzhou Fotofestival (China), Valladolid (Spain), and Manager and teacher of the International Photography Masterclass « 24TheWorkshop ».

Eric Pillault is creative director based in Paris, France. He worked as a freelance graphic designer and DA in numerous magazines. He started to work with Terry Richardson, Nathaniel Goldberg, Mark Borthwick, for the magazine “”20 ans”” in 1996. In 2003, he set the tone of the monthly magazine “”Jalouse””, which was a creative platform for many photographers, including Jean-Baptiste Mondino, Araki Nobuyoshi, Duane Michals and Homma Takashi.
In 2011, he successfully launched M le magazine du Monde with Marie-Pierre Lannelongue. Neither an infotainment nor a woman magazine, M is mixing the best of information and style. The magazine has won many awards since its launch, captivating readers and advertisers by collaborating weekly with leading photographers such as Juergen Teller, Paolo Roversi, Peter Lindbergh, Mario Sorrenti, Alasdair McLellan, and Bruce Weber …
As an multidisciplinary artist, Eric regularly conceives special edition artists books. Eric also runs the Funnybones studio, which is involved in many visual identity projects, design and brand consultancy – in the fields of contemporary art, fashion, luxury and culture.

Anette Skuggedal has been working within the arts since 1993. For the past 10 years she has been a curator and runs PUG // Pop-Up Gallery based in Oslo, Norway.
The gallery is committed to promoting contemporary photography by internationally acclaimed artists, who push the boundaries of contemporary art. The gallery showcases artists presenting creative integrity and intent with the highest level of craftsmanship. The strength of the photographic image is the core of the gallery’s vision. The list of artists include; Sally Mann, Jimmy Nelson, Arno Minkkinen, Matthias Olmeta, Eleanor Coppola, Jeff Cowen and Nick Brandt. The Gallery is a member of Aipad, and works closely with many international galleries and institutions.
Anette Skuggedal has curated exhibitions in a diversity of spaces, such as abandoned factory buildings and a fortress. One of the main visions of the gallery is to present art photography in spaces that challenge the art, giving the exhibitions another layer, as well as creating serene experiences. She has a close cooperation with Fotografiska, Stockholm, where she has curated several exhibitions such as; Sally Mann ‘A matter of Time’ in 2011, Roger Ballen´s ‘Theatre of the Absurd’ and Joyce Tenneson ‘Light Warriors’ in 2014.
Throughout this time Anette Skuggedal has designed, produced and published books, and catalogs for a diversity of the represented artists, in correlation with individual exhibitions. Presentation of work, whether in books, catalogs or online distribution is of great importance.
She is currently working on extensive exhibitions for individual artists, such as Arno Minkkinen shown in part at Kyotographie. She is also leading mentoring programs in photography in Oslo.

Sujong Song is a Seoul-based curator and writer who is active in all aspects of photography, ranging from publication to exhibition and event planning. Until 2014, she had been on the steering committee for the Daegu Photo Biennale, and was the director of its portfolio review section. She is currently on the planning committee of Korea Photograher’s Fellowship hosted by Sangsang Madang, an influential cultural branch of KT&G. Song also has experience in broadcasting, having helped to create shows for the national broadcasting network, KBS, and the English-language Arirang TV.
Song served on the committees for the Angkor Photo Festival and the World Health Organization’s Stop TB Photo Award. She has organized and curated many exhibitions: the 2012 Mario Giacomelli exhibition at the Museum of Photography, Seoul; Five Views from Korea at the Noorderlicht Gallery in 2014; Two Moons at the GoEun Museum of Photography in 2015; and the Map of Daily Life at the Art Museum of Lishui in 2015, to name a few.
She has judged on panels for World Press Photo, POYi, and Flash Forward among many other photography awards and also nominates for several awards including Prix Pictet and Joop Swart Masterclass. Having been editor-in-chief of GEO-Korea, Song now regularly writes for the photography column of the daily, Kyunghyang Shinmun.
She is most interested in reviewing bodies of work with an individual and articulate point of view while tackling contemporary issues. She is not interested in commercial photography. Through portfolio reviews, Ms. Song intends to find artists to collaborate with in various exhibitions. She is also able to promote artists and their work for awards and/or workshop consideration along with opportunities for exhibitions.

Duan Yuting has been dedicating herself to promoting Chinese contemporary photography for many years. Currently she is the director of Lianzhou International Photo Festival, one of the biggest and most influential photo festivals in China. She cofounded the festival in 2005 and has been closely involved with its development since then. Over the course of nine years and going into its tenth year, the festival has become a professional platform for upcoming and established artists to exhibit their talents as well as scholars and critics to discuss and exchange ideas about the various global developments in photography through an extensive range of programs such as photo exhibitions, public activities, annual awards, projection screenings, portfolio review and academic forum. Duan Yuting has been invited to be jury members, photo reviewers and guest curators by numerous international photo festivals such as FotoFest, FOTOBILD in Berlin, Paris Photo Biennale, Rhubarb-Rhubarb festival in Birmingham, Salonika Photo Biennale in Greece, Festival de la Luz in Argentina and Moscow Photo Biennale. In the past several years, she has also been a nominator for Prix Pictet Photography Prize and the Hasselblad Award.
She is interested in all kinds of contemporary photography other than commercial.
She can offer general portfolio advice to participating photographers and her organization can provide exhibition opportunities at Lianzhou Photo Festival in the future. Quite a large number of photographers exhibited at the festival in the past were discovered at portfolio reviews.

I was born in 1971 in the Netherlands. After a career of ten years as a solicitor in the Netherlands I switched to photography. I went to the Fotoacademie in Amsterdam from 2005-2007 to be trained as an independent photographer, while still working as a lawyer at an insurance company. I worked as a commercial photographer for some years in the Netherlands before moving to London for my husband’s work in 2008. From 2012 until 2014 I followed and completed a Masters-programme Photography at the University of Manchester via Sotheby’s Institute of Art. During the first half of 2014 I was an intern at James Hyman Gallery in London, before moving to Antwerp, Belgium with my family in August 2014. Together with my husband, Martijn van Pieterson, we have set up and opened a photography gallery specialised in Japanese photography in March 2015. In 2015 we have participated at the following fairs: Photo London in May, Asian Art in Brussels in June, UNSEEN in Amsterdam in September and at PAN (a general art fair) in Amsterdam. In 2016 we will participate again at Photo London and UNSEEN.

Takayuki Ishii was born in 1963 and moved to the United States in 1982. After studying painting at the Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles, Ishii began his career in the U.S as an art dealer. Upon returning to Japan in 1994, Ishii established Taka Ishii Gallery in Otsuka, Tokyo (the gallery is currently located in Kiyosumi). Over the past 20 years Taka Ishii Gallery has held exhibitions with Japan’s leading photographers including Nobuyoshi Araki, Daido Moriyama, Naoya Hatakeyama; painters such as Nobuya Hoki, Naoto Kawahara, Kyoko Murase, and Hiroe Saeki, and has further introduced the works of up and coming Japanese artists: Ei Arakawa, Yuki Kimura, Yukinori Maeda, and Kei Takemura. In addition to organizing exhibitions in Japan, Ishii quickly expanded his activities to the global art scene. Through regular participation in international art fairs such as Art Basel and Frieze Art Fair, Ishii has significantly contributed to increasing the global recognition of the Japanese artists he represents. At the same time, he serves to actively introduce the currents of contemporary art in Europe and the United States to the Japanese audience through exhibitions with highly acclaimed international artists such as Thomas Demand, Dan Graham, Sterling Ruby, and Cerith Wyn Evans as well as the works of aspiring young artists like Luke Fowler and Mario Garcia Torres. Ishii is also involved in the publication of exhibition catalogs and artist’s books.
In February 2011, Ishii established Taka Ishii Gallery Photography / Film in Roppongi, Tokyo, as a gallery that specializes in photography. The gallery showcases the works of Japan’s prewar and postwar generation of photographers including VIVO members such as Eikoh Hosoe, Shomei Tomatsu, and Ikko Narahara; Minoru Hirata whom documented the activities of avant-garde artists of the 1960s, and works by Kiyoji Otsuji from Jikken Kobo (Experimental Workshop). Furthermore, the gallery introduces works by young photographers such as Erika Yoshino, Tomoki Imai, Nao Tsuda, and Ayaka Yamamoto. June 2014 marked the opening of Taka Ishii Gallery Photography Paris in Le Marais, followed by the opening of Taka Ishii Gallery New York in the city’s Upper East Side in March 2015.
In May 2014, Ishii established the Fine-Art Photography Association (FAPA) as a means to further develop the unique and rich context of Japan’s photography community. The Association comprising of supporting galleries, publishers, and booksellers, launched the Hillside Terrace Photo Fair in Daikanyama, Tokyo, in September 2014. In addition to nurturing the growth of Japan’s currently developing photography market, the association continues to plan a variety of measures with the aim to further promote and disseminate practices in Fine-Art photography and film culture.

As a researcher at Izu Photo Museum, Kohara has organised exhibitions by Nobuyoshi Araki, Manabu Miyazaki, Tazuko Masuyama, Ichiro Kojima. He also directed a film on Takuma Nakahira, The Man Who Became a Camera (2003). His books includes Visions of Fuji: An Incurable Malady of Modern Japan; SUSPENDING TIME: LifeーPhotography ーDeath (coauther); etc.

Design and contemporary photography form the basis of Seiji Komatsu’s dual-creative approach. Founded in 1996, design core EMON Inc. focuses on corporate brand building, spatial design and more. EMON Photo Gallery opened in 2005, and continues to uncover up-and-coming artists via the annual EMON Award as well as regularly participate in art fairs and festivals both in Japan and abroad. The motives of EMON Photo Gallery focus on artistic activities that serve to advance the possibilities of contemporary photography, unconcerned by the borders of genre. Recognition for these endeavours includes the 2013 Art Gent Gallery Award Grand Prix, the 2015 Kyotographie KG+ Award Grand Prix and more.

In 2011 he started the bookshop［POST］which focus on 1 publisher every period. The bookstore works as the official bookshop of German publisher［Steidl］. Working as the director of［POST］, he takes charge of the several project: curation of the exhibitions, publications, selection of the books for Dover Street Market Ginza etc. From 2015 he works as the director of The Tokyo Art Book Fair.

Mutsuko Ota is Editorial Director of IMA magazine. born in Tokyo, 1968. She started her career as an editor at Marie Claire and worked at several men’s magazines such as Esquire, GQ and others as feature editor on travel, gastronomy, culture, art and photography among other areas. Along with collaborating with several magazines as a freelance editor, she also became involved in various fields including art projects, book and catalogue editing, and film promotion throughout her career. She became the editorial director of IMA magazine in January 2012.In 2004 she produced real space called IMA CONCEPT STORE in Tokyo for art photography popularization in Japan.

Lucille Reyboz :
Photographer. Born in 1973, Lucille Reyboz spent an important part of her childhood in Africa where she began her journey with photography. In 1999, she discovered Japan while participating in Sakamoto Ryuichi’s opera Life. First and foremost a portrait photographer, Reyboz produced numerous record covers for such labels as Blue Note and Verve. She has extensively exhibited her work all over the world, notably in Visa pour l’image (2001), Phillips de Pury in New York (2007), HSBC on the Champs-Elysées during Paris Photo (2008), CHANEL NEXUS HALL, Tokyo (2011). She has also published several books including, Batammaba Bâtisseurs d’univers, by Gallimard, Source, Belles de Bamako and Impressions du Japon by Editions de la Martinière created in collaboration with Keiichiro Hirano. Reyboz continues to be fascinated and inspired by Japan and Shinto rituals, she now lives and works in Kyoto where she created KYOTOGRAPHIE International Photography Festival with Yusuke Nakanishi in 2013.

Yusuke Nakanishi:
Born in 1968, Yusuke Nakanishi is a lighting artist who travels the world, and expresses his impressions of light and shadow from his memories. He has worked as a lighting director for feature films, stages, music concerts, fashion shows and Interior designs. He also created the Eatable Lights object series, and has exhibited installations at the Hara Museum, the School Gallery Paris, and Nuits Blanche Kyoto. He has founded KYOTOGRAPHIE International Photography Festival with Lucille Reyboz from 2013.
